In a recent class in seminary we studied women of faith working internationally. To my great joy, Annalena Tonelli was featured in the main chapter. She is not widely known, especially outside Italy and the Horn of Africa, and I loved hearing people respond to learning about her life and work. If you haven’t had a chance to read her story of finding a cure for tuberculosis among Somali nomads, being taken hostage during the Somali war, managing a feeding center for hundreds of Somalis, how she rescued people during a massacre in Kenya, or her about-face regarding female genital mutilation, and how she found hope and love in dire circumstances by celebrating the people around her, now would be a great time to pick up a copy of Stronger than Death.
